Brown Hill Estate

The estate

Jim and Gwen Bailey grew up around Kalgoorlie, where four generations of their family had lived close to the historic Brown Hill gold mine on the Golden Mile. In 1995 they planted a vineyard in Rosa Brook, in the Margaret River region, naming the estate after the mine that shaped their childhood.

The estate is a single 24-hectare vineyard, still run by the family — son Nathan Bailey is senior winemaker, working alongside his wife Chiara. Every wine is estate-grown from that one site, hand-picked and hand-sorted before fermentation.

Many labels carry the names of Kalgoorlie's historic gold-mining claims — Golden Horseshoe, Great Boulder, Ivanhoe — a nod to the family's goldfields roots. The range centres on Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, matured in French oak with a minimal-intervention approach.
