Bertani

The estate

Founded in 1857 in Grezzana, in the Valpantena valley north of Verona, by brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani. Gaetano had travelled to Burgundy to study under viticulturist Jules Guyot, and the brothers brought those techniques home, pioneering single-vineyard bottling in Valpolicella decades before it became common practice.

Winery manager Ernesto Barbero was instrumental in shaping Amarone della Valpolicella into the wine it is today, refining a long-ageing style valued for finesse over raw power. The company is now part of Angelini Wines & Estates.

Patience defines the house style — long cellar ageing and a lighter, more elegant register of Amarone that sets Bertani apart from the riper, more concentrated style many other Valpolicella producers pursue.
