The estate

A medieval castle above Greve in Chianti, in the hands of the François family since 1897. Originally French nobility who settled in Tuscany in the 18th century, they've farmed this hilltop estate for over a century without interruption.

In 1924 Castello di Querceto was one of 33 founding members of the Consorzio del Chianti Classico. In the 1970s, Alessandro François pioneered the region's single-vineyard cru concept with the Il Picchio and La Corte bottlings, decades before it became a formal classification.

Sangiovese from 65 hectares of estate vineyards, planted across 26 individual parcels — still one of the highest and coolest sites in the Chianti Classico zone, prized for the freshness of its wines.
