Sardus Pater

The estate

Sardus Pater was founded in 1949 as a growers' cooperative on Sant'Antioco, the island off Sardinia's southwestern coast, taking its name from the ancient Sardinian deity honoured on Roman-era coins minted there.

Around 200 grower-members now farm the surrounding land between them, many still on ungrafted, sand-planted vines — some of the oldest Carignano plantings in Sardinia, prized for their naturally low yields.

Carignano is the backbone of the range, made into the DOC wine Carignano del Sulcis, alongside Vermentino and smaller plantings of Cannonau and Monica.
