The estate

Steve Maglieri — known to everyone as Serafino — arrived in Australia from Sepino, Italy, in 1964 as a teenager. Two years later he planted his first vines in McLaren Vale, and in 1972 established Maglieri Wines with his father Giovanni.

After selling that business in 1998, Steve returned to winemaking on his own terms, developing Serafino Wines in 2000 on the Kangarilla Road site the winery still occupies. His daughter, Maria Maglieri, now leads the business.

The estate's vineyards support both McLaren Vale mainstays like Shiraz and Grenache and an Italian-accented range — Fiano, Sangiovese, Nero d'Avola — that traces the family's own roots back to Italy.
