The estate

Giovanni Tait arrived in the Barossa from Italy in 1957 to work as a cooper — not a winemaker, but a barrel-maker, a trade his family had practised for a hundred years. It was his sons who turned that generations-deep knowledge of oak into a winery.

Brothers Michael and Bruno Tait, and Bruno's wife Michelle, purchased the property in Lyndoch in 1994 and have run it ever since, using traditional open fermentation, extended maceration and basket pressing on deliberately low-yielding Barossa fruit.

The wines carry the family's sense of humour as much as its craft — bottlings like The Ball Buster and The Wild Ride pair serious winemaking with unpretentious, tongue-in-cheek branding.
