The estate

Silvio Nardi, an Umbrian entrepreneur, bought the Casale del Bosco estate in northwest Montalcino in 1950 and produced his first Brunello in 1954, becoming one of the first outsiders to recognise the area's potential.

The estate expanded with the Manachiara property on Montalcino's eastern side in 1962. Emilia Nardi, Silvio's youngest daughter and the third generation to run the estate, has led it since 1985.

The two properties cover vineyard plots planted almost entirely to Sangiovese, with Casale del Bosco and Manachiara offering distinctly different expressions of Brunello from the western and eastern sides of Montalcino.
