Varvaglione

The estate

Founded in Leporano in 1921, Varvaglione is now one of the largest family-owned wineries in Puglia, still run by the family who started it — currently Cosimo Varvaglione and his wife Maria Teresa, with their children forming the fourth generation.

The estate farms roughly 150 hectares itself and works with local growers it has partnered with for over thirty years, all within Salento — the sun-baked 'heel' of Italy and heartland of the Primitivo grape.

Flagship wines like the Papale Oro Primitivo di Manduria sit alongside a native-grape-focused range built on Negroamaro and Susumaniello, wines built for the region's rich, tomato-and-olive-oil table.
